What should you do in case of damage?

Rescue Board 112

If someone has been injured in an accident or you need help from the Rescue Board, call 112.

Assistance at the scene

If you are at the scene and need our help, contact our damage assistance on 680 1122 immediately. We will advise you on what to do and, if necessary, quickly come to the scene to help.

Report a claim

If you do not need immediate assistance, notify us of the loss event as soon as possible. To do this, submit a claim notice on our website, call 680 1122 or drop an e-mail at kahjud@lhv.ee.

Registration of a traffic accident

In the event of a traffic accident, the traffic accident must be registered at the scene. A digital accident report can be used for this purpose.

If someone was injured in the accident, more than 5 vehicles were involved or it is not clear who caused the accident, report the accident to the emergency number 112.

If you have prepared a digital traffic accident report at the scene of an accident and have chosen to send it to us, you do not need to notify us separately.

Home assistance

Call LHV home assistance on 680 1122 for immediate help

Someone from LHV home assistance will advise you over the phone and come to help you in case there has been an accident at your home. We will help you prevent further damage and eliminate the initial problem.

Report a claim

Water damage

We will help to stop the water leak and, if possible, temporarily repair the water pipe. We will help to dry excess water and carry out the initial clean-up.

In this way we can prevent further damage and ensure that you maintain basic amenities such as water supply and heating.

Frozen water pipes

We will provide initial assistance with defrosting the pipes and restoring the water supply.

Broken doors or windows

We will help to provide a temporary fix to secure the door or window to prevent further damage.

Clogged pipes

We will help eliminate blockage in the pipes.

Electrical failure

We will help to eliminate hazards resulting from an electrical failure in order to prevent the risk of a fire. If possible, we will also help to restore the electricity supply.

Lost keys

If you have lost the keys to your home or are unable to open (or securely close) the door for any other reason, we will help you to open, close or repair the lock.

Theft or other incident

If you are unable to securely close the doors, windows or other openings in your home, we will provide manned security until your home is safe and secure.

Temporary dwelling

If, due to an insured event, residential space within an insured building becomes uninhabitable, the home assistance service provider shall make arrangements for finding and moving the occupants into a temporary dwelling.

Incidents at home or with household property

Fire
  • Notify the Emergency Response Centre immediately by calling 112.
  • Make sure there are no people in the burning or smoke-filled room. Take everyone to a safe place.
  • Try to extinguish the fire as much as possible with household safety equipment, but do not risk your health.
  • Wait for the rescue team to arrive.
Water damage
  • Shut off the mains water supply or try to stop the water from running by other means.
  • Use household supplies to dry up most of the water, to stop the damage from spreading.
Vandalism or theft
  • Report the case to the police by calling 112.
  • Do not leave your home and property unattended.
Other incidents
  • Call LHV home assistance on 680 1122 and we will advise you on how to proceed. If necessary, we will come to help you.

Travel assistance

Call LHV travel assistance on 680 1122 for immediate help

If you have an accident while travelling or your trip does not go according to plan, then someone from LHV travel assistance will advise you over the phone on what to do. They will also help you to get medical treatment and, if necessary, find new airline tickets and hotel accommodation.

Report a claim

Medical assistance

If necessary, we will help you find the necessary medical assistance abroad and arrange the payment of medical expenses.

Serious accidents

We will help to arrange transport for you to return home.

Trip interruption

We will help you exchange or buy new airline tickets and, if necessary, find a new hotel.

Luggage loss or delay

We will advise you on what to do if your luggage is lost or delayed.

Incidents while travelling

Trip interruption
  • If an interruption to your trip is related to a health issue, see a doctor immediately and take care of your health first. Later, submit a written doctor’s certificate to LHV insurance.
  • Contact your travel service provider, airline or hotel as soon as possible to request a reimbursement for unused services.
  • If a flight delay causes you to miss your connecting flight, then contact the airline first to see if it is possible to rebook or to obtain a replacement ticket. If you need to buy a new ticket or to find additional accommodation or transport, call LHV travel assistance on 680 1122 to avoid having to spend your own money.
  • If necessary, call LHV travel assistance on 680 1122 to ask for advice on what to do in the event of an incident.
Damaged luggage
  • If your luggage has been damaged or lost while in the possession of a transport company or airline, then you must first report the incident to the transport company or airline and submit a claim for compensation to them.
  • If your luggage is delayed, contact a representative of the transport company or airline and ask for written proof of the luggage delay. If you buy essential items due to luggage delays, keep the purchase receipts and submit them to LHV insurance together with the claim notice.
  • If your luggage is stolen, contact the local police and ask for written proof of the case registration.
  • If necessary, call LHV travel assistance on 680 1122 to ask for advice on what to do in the event of an incident.
Medical assistance
  • If you become ill or get injured in an accident, see a doctor immediately and follow their instructions.
  • If you need milder treatment or medication, go to the nearest medical institution.
  • If you need hospital treatment, call LHV travel assistance on 680 1122 as soon as possible. We will help you find a suitable medical institution and arrange payment for the necessary treatment.
  • If you are injured as a result of a crime, report it to the local police immediately.
  • If you see a doctor without first contacting LHV travel assistance, then notify LHV insurance of the loss event as soon as possible by calling 680 1122.
Legal assistance
  • If you cause an accident in which someone is injured and criminal or misdemeanour proceedings are brought against you, or a third party makes a claim against you that requires you to seek legal advice, then please notify us immediately by calling 680 1122.
Incidents with rental cars
  • If you have a traffic accident with your rental car, register it according to local requirements and submit a copy of the same document to LHV insurance.
  • If there is a theft or robbery involving your rental car, call the local police number immediately and follow their instructions.
  • If you pay the car rental company the excess amount, keep the expense document given to you. Ask the rental company to provide proof of the existence or absence of valid comprehensive insurance for the rental car and the amount of excess.

Roadside assistance

Call LHV roadside assistance on 680 1122 for immediate help

If you are travelling by car and can no longer continue to drive due to an unexpected accident or technical failure, LHV roadside assistance will come to your aid and help you to reach your planned destination. We will advise you over the phone on what to do. If necessary, we will help you to prepare a written traffic accident report at the scene of the accident.

Out of fuel unexpectedly?

We will bring you extra fuel so you can drive to the nearest gas station.

Empty battery?

If your car does not start because the battery is empty, we will come and help get the car up and running.

Flat tyre?

We will come and help you to change your wheel or tyre.

Missing car keys?

We will take you to fetch a spare key or tow your car to the nearest repair shop or storage facility.

Your car is stuck?

If your car is stuck in snow or in soft ground or you have driven off the road, we will come and help you to get the car running again.

Towing

If you are no longer able to drive your car due to an accident or technical failure, we will help to tow it to the nearest repair shop or storage facility. If this happens in Estonia, you can have the vehicle towed to your home.

Driver and passenger transport

We will ensure the transport of the driver and passengers with their luggage to the planned destination within the Baltic states or back home. Outside the Baltic states, we will take the driver and passengers to the nearest place where they can continue their journey.

If it is not possible to continue the trip on the same day, we will arrange temporary accommodation for the driver and passengers for up to three days.

If you are outside Estonia and the vehicle is destroyed, we will ensure the transport of the driver and passengers as well their luggage back to Estonia, if necessary.

Incidents with a car

  • Stop immediately, no matter how small the accident seems to you, and turn on the hazard warning lights to warn other road users of any potential danger.
  • If you get out of the car to survey the situation, make sure to put on a reflective vest, as this will help increase your safety.
  • If someone has been injured in the accident or there is a risk of fire or environmental pollution, call the Emergency Response Centre on 112.
  • Mark the scene with a warning triangle so that it is visible to other road users.
  • If there were witnesses to the incident, write down their contact details so that someone from the insurance can contact them later if necessary.
  • If the parties involved in the traffic accident have a dispute over who caused the accident, then report the incident to the police. Otherwise, register the accident with a written report. The most convenient way to do this is to use the traffic accident report form.
  • In the event of a collision with a wild animal, report the injured or dead animal to the Emergency Response Centre or the Environmental Inspectorate on 1313. You can also report an accident involving wildlife to the Road Information Centre on 1510 or to your local authority.
  • If you have an on-board camera in your vehicle, make sure to preserve the video of the incident and what preceded it. Inform LHV insurance of the video.
  • Take photos of the scene and any damage, as this will allow you to better capture the situation and help resolve the case more quickly.
  • If you are in doubt about what to do, call LHV roadside assistance on 680 1122 for advice. If necessary, we will come to your aid to help you register the incident or to tow the vehicle.
  • Notify us of the loss event as soon as possible by submitting a claim notice on our website or by calling 680 1122.

Good to know

The best way to resolve an insured event is to prevent it. If you notice any danger, do your best to eliminate it and prevent the damage from occurring. At the same time, it is important that you do not put yourself or others in danger.

What are the easiest things you can do to keep your property safe?
  • Behave prudently and diligently.
  • Do not leave your belongings unattended, including in a visible place in a locked vehicle or in the locked stairwell of an apartment building.
  • Keep your keys and security codes safe so that they do not fall into the hands of strangers.
  • When travelling by air, put fragile items in your hand luggage.
  • Be careful in traffic and do not use your phone while driving.
But what should you do if something still happens?
  • First and foremost, ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • If necessary, notify the Emergency Response Centre or the police immediately by calling 112.
  • Try to limit further damage, for example, in the event of a leak, shut off the mains water supply.
  • Call LHV damage assistance on 680 1122 for advice on how to act in a particular situation. We will help you to limit the damage and eliminate the initial consequences of the incident.
  • If possible, take photos of any damage. These make it possible to better record the situation and help resolve the case more quickly.
  • Notify us of the incident as soon as possible by submitting a claim notice on our website or by calling 680 1122.
  • Keep the damaged property until we have inspected it.
